Bringing together 3,000 owners of privately-owned historic monuments and gardens, France's oldest association dedicated to heritage conservation is celebrating its centenary across the country. This event highlights both the progress made and the challenges facing this irreplaceable part of the nation's heritage.
Founded in 1924 by Joachim Carvallo, owner of the château and gardens of Villandry, and recognized as a public utility in 1965, Demeure Historique is a key interlocutor with public authorities. The association works to preserve and transmit this historical and cultural heritage, which welcomes over 9 million visitors annually and generates, along with public monuments, 21 billion euros in economic benefits. This centenary is an opportunity for Demeure Historique to share its history and ambitions with the general public, as well as to address the major challenges facing these sites of art, history, and culture: environmental protection, financing, and transmission.
The 100th annual Demeure Historique conference will be held at the Château de Bagatelle, owned by the City of Paris and now restored by the Mansart Foundation, on Friday, December 6, 2024.
